The youth hostel is run by the ADAJ (Association Départementale des Auberges de Jeuness, or Departmental Association of Youth Hostels), of which the youth hostels of Brest and Ile de Batz are also members.

We are members of the LFAJ (Ligue Française des Auberges de Jeunesse or French League of Youth Hostels) and we are one of the 50 Ethic-Etapes centers in France!

The soul of the hostel

The building was founded in 1906 by Jacques de Thézac, and started out as a shelter for sailors.
To this day, the center has remained a convivial meeting point centered around the maritime world.
Eventually, the shelter was converted into a youth hostel, and opened its doors in April 1959. It was renovated five years later.
Since then, we have constantly been modifying the building to keep it up to your satisfaction.

But never fear, regardless of any future changes, the ocean will always be visible from all four sides of the hostel! encontre et de convivialité orienté vers le monde maritime.

(With hospitality!)

For your information :
In addition to that of Jacques de Thézac, two names are important to keep in mind in the History of Hostels : First, Richard Schirmann, who created the first youth hostels in Germany in 1909, using school classrooms during the summer holidays.

He thought of it as a starting point to introduce young people to the beauty of the German countryside via pedestrian treks (remember, it was just 1909!).

The idea started to gain popularity all over Europe, and eventually the Hostels began to unite.

On August 28, 1930, Marc Sangnier opened the first Hostel in France, and once the government had the brilliant idea to institute paid vacations in 1936, the hostels experienced an impressive period of development.

These days, you have the choice between 200 Hostels in France, Germany, Great Britain…and the list goes on!
So hesitate no longer, join up!!! .

A Youth Hostel, what is it good for…?

Our themes are discovery and open-mindedness, opening up to different cultures, discovering the environment, etc.

Basically, as you've probably already guessed by now, the Hostel is a lively place to meet, respect, and learn about others.

So it's also in this spirit that we ask everyone to be an active participant in the facility by helping out with certain chores, like folding your covers before leaving, doing your dishes when you use the guest kitchen, nothing too extreme…

Don't worry, you'll still have a bit of time to relax at the end of the day! The main idea is that you create the ambiance of your stay and you must be doing something right, because the ambiance here in Concarneau is serene and welcoming !

Alone, with family, as a group, young, not quite so young (every year we are lucky enough to welcome our favorite elder born in 1921)… We are happy to have you! chaque année notre doyenne préférée née en 1921).

The Youth Hostel of Concarneau has chosen to join in partnership with other organizations that share our values.

Since 1998 we have been a member in the Ucrif (Union des Centres Internationales de Séjours Français or Union of International Centers of French Sojourns), which since 2005 has chosen the name: Ethic-Etapes.

A quality lodging for individuals and groups, a spirit of solidarity and responsibility that unites all the centers, meeting and exchange as a principal of action ???
We approach nature with care, we take care to use non-toxic products, to reduce waste and recycle, and engage in other civic duties.
This list is far from exhaustive and we are always open to suggestion, so don't hesitate to give us your knowledge of this domain. Let's be fair!
